Questions before
you pre-order.
Myo-20 is a pre-production actuator sold ahead of its first manufacturing run. Below is what we can state with confidence today, and what is still an estimate.
The product
What exactly is in the box?
One Myo-20 actuator and its matched control board, assembled and tested as a single unit. The $299 price is for both together — the control board is not a separate purchase.
Power supply, host controller and mounting hardware are not included.
What is a quasi-direct-drive actuator, and why does it matter?
A QDD actuator pairs a high-torque motor with a low reduction ratio — 8:1 in the Myo-20. Because the gearing is light, the joint stays highly backdrivable: an external force can turn the output, and the motor can sense that force through current rather than needing a separate torque sensor.
That makes QDD the usual choice for legged robots and any machine that has to be safe around contact, where a high-ratio gearbox would be rigid and slow to react.
How do I control it?
Over CAN FD, USB-C or UART. Position, velocity and torque control modes are available from the start, and multiple joints can be daisy-chained on a single CAN bus.
The command set is open and documented — you are not locked into a proprietary SDK or a vendor GUI.
What power supply do I need?
A 24–48 V DC bus. Peak torque figures are quoted at peak phase current, so size your supply for the duty cycle you actually intend to run, not for the peak number alone.
Discharge circuitry is integrated, so stored bus energy has somewhere to go when power is cut — no external regen clamp or bleed module is required for basic protection.
Ordering & delivery
When does it ship?
We don't have a confirmed ship date yet. Myo-20 is pre-production, and pre-orders fund the first manufacturing run. Publishing a date we cannot hold would be worse than publishing none.
Pre-order customers are emailed at every production milestone, including any slip, and are first in the queue when units ship.
What am I charged today?
The full $299, once, at checkout. There is no separate deposit and no balance due later. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your destination.
Payment is handled by Stripe. Card details are never sent to or stored on our servers.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Yes. Every pre-order carries a 30-day money-back guarantee, pay for return shipping and we'll accept the product. Because this is a pre-order you can cancel for a full refund at any point before your unit ships — including if a revised timeline no longer suits you.
Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately not yet. While we would love to serve everyone, we're focusing on sales in North America first.
Support
Is a warranty included?
Yes! 30 days after your delivery date, you can ask for a refund or replacement if you find a manufacturing defect. Wear from operating outside the published electrical and thermal limits is not covered — the limits are in the specification table on the main page.
Are the specifications final?
They are targets for the first production run, validated on prototype hardware. Where a figure is still an estimate rather than a measured production value, it is marked as such on the comparison page.
If a final measured value lands below a published target, we will say so directly and offer affected pre-order customers a refund.
How do I get in touch?
Open a ticket on the support page — it reaches an engineer directly and gives you a reference number, so nothing gets lost. Pre-sales questions are welcome there too.
If you would rather email, write to support@kineticrobotic.com — it lands in the same queue.
